This Sunday, March 7, 2010 is
This Sunday speaks about how to work hard and be ingenious to take care of our spiritual endeavor and use our material resources to make friends. The parable Jesus is introducing to us in this Sunday’s Gospel reading needs to be read carefully, because the main character of the story is a dishonest man who cheated his employee. The crux of the story’s message is in the following statement of Jesus at the end of the story. “And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous mammon, so that when it fails they may receive you into the eternal habitations.” (Luke 16:9)
The hymn of the day:
The first cloak, with which you have covered us through the Holy Spirit, we were divested by the sin of our forefathers. We beseech you Christ, our Lord; cover us again with the same cloak through your mercy. (Armenian Hymnal, 4th Sunday of Great Lent)
As in the past, on this Steward’s Sunday, we will have a special collection to boost our orphan’s fund. This is a challenge for all of us to come forward and be good stewards and “make friends for ourselves by means of our money.” Therefore, please, come prepared. Write your checks and bring them to church. Let me remind you again; GIVE, NOT BECAUSE YOU ARE BEING ASKED, BUT BECAUSE YOU WANT TO GIVE.

TD BANK AFFINITY PROGRAM
We have been actively looking for ways to raise more money for the church and TD/Commerce Bank has a affinity program for non-for-profit organizations that we have enrolled in. TD/Commerce Bank will make a donation to the church once a year if 50 households from our church demonstrate that they have a qualifying account (checking, savings, money market, CD or IRA) with them. Those who already signed up we thank them and encourage those who did not to pick up the phone and call their bank.
